Laura Kelly isn’t your ordinary editor.  She knows how to get deep into a character’s psyche and tell you where that character is taking your story.  If it isn’t where you want your story to go, she can tell you how to fix it--or show you a better way to go.  Ms. Kelly has a
gift for characterization, story structure, and teaching.

welcome

Hello, and welcome to our website!

First of all, a huge thank you goes out to everyone who once again voted Laura Kelly as one of the year’s top five editors in the 2011 Preditors and Editors poll (this year we came in at Number One!).  We couldn’t have done it without you, nor could we have expanded our services so much these past two years without your help and requests.  Now a full-service agency, LKES can help you with any phase of your writing project, from research to formatting—and even blurb writing.  In addition to our regular editing packages, we also offer coaching and mentoring services for writers looking for step-by-step guidance in how to make your manuscript the best it can possibly be.

To help us accomplish all of this, LKES welcomes two new members to our staff, editor Keena Tomko, who is our point of view guru, and Meg Simmons, our research assistant.  At LKES, we make every effort to match the project to the editor, so don’t be surprised if you get the benefit of two or three skill sets, depending on the nature of your project.  With Meg on board, we now have the ability to help you research/organize your memoirs, or any topic you might need more information on for your book.  We invite you to check out their bios on our About page, and all the new services we now have available on our Rates page thanks to our talented staff.  While you’re there, you might want to inquire about the awesome online workshops Jodi has developed for this year.

As always, at LKES, our goal is to help you produce a full manuscript that is just the way you want it.  We specialize in analyzing story structure, not just rubber stamp editing, and are here to help you achieve your writing dreams, because to us, teamwork isn’t just another word.  It’s what we’re all about. We love to brainstorm, love to teach, and love to see our clients succeed.

And succeed they do, as several of our authors have taken what they have learned from us and applied those same tools and techniques in manuscripts that have earned them contracts with major publishing houses.  Others are happily self-published, and you can find their books listed on Amazon or available through their individual websites.

From self-help books to memoirs to genre fiction, LKES will fully involve you in the editing process from start to finish.  We’ve discovered that our most successful authors are open to learning, and our methods work best when the editing process is a two-way street.  Time and time again we’ve proven that our suggestions have made a positive difference in how our clients’ manuscripts are perceived by agents, publishers—and readers. We also feel the secret to our success is that we have no desire to change your “voice.”  What we do is nurture your voice and ideas to bring them out more fully and help you create a book that resonates with your readers.

Our books regularly receive awards, award nominations, Five Star and above reviews, and have been praised over and over again (see our reviews page) for the depth of character, emotion, and story structure we’re able to help our authors achieve.  Pacing is paramount in any story, and we have a proven track record of knowing how to keep the reader’s interest level high for our non-fiction clients and how to maintain suspense in the stories we edit for our fiction clients.  Good writing is good writing, no matter what the genre.

So send us an email today, and we’ll be happy to discuss how we can help you get from where you are with your writing goals to where you want to be.

Thank you again, and we look forward to hearing from you!
